This project reinterprets the studio as an open, fluid living environment, where spatial boundaries are not defined by walls but by the careful orchestration of built elements. Rather than imposing strict separations, the design allows functions to emerge organically through the placement, continuity, and material expression of custom interventions.
A continuous built volume anchors the space, wrapping the corner to integrate storage and seating while establishing a strong spatial datum. Constructed as a stiff mass its surface is articulated through a mosaic-like finish composed of wood fragments set within a cementitious matrix. This textured skin introduces a tactile richness and a subtle variation in tone, contrasting with the smoother surrounding surfaces while reinforcing the sense of permanence and craft. At the center of the composition, a custom-built bed is conceived as part of a larger architectural system rather than a standalone object. It is defined by a continuous “ribbon” element that traverses the room, extending horizontally to form the bed base, bedside surfaces, and low linear thresholds. This ribbon operates as a spatial device, gently delineating zones and guiding movement without enclosing the space, maintaining the studio’s open and fluid character.
Lighting is treated as an independent architectural layer. A mirrored installation integrates concealed linear illumination, amplifying light through reflection and introducing depth and ambiguity. Suspended pendant fixtures act as precise visual markers within the open plan, while the reflected glow enhances horizontality and accentuates the material textures of the space.
The project embodies a quiet yet expressive approach to living, where architecture and furniture merge into a cohesive whole. Through the interplay of mass and continuity, texture and reflection, the space achieves a delicate balance between openness and definition—offering a nuanced interpretation of contemporary domesticity within a compact studio.
